Veteran Surprised with New Home in Peoria

A Valley Veteran is a new homeowner thanks to a nationwide effort launching right here in the Valley.

The Veterans Association of Real Estate Professionals, or VAREP, gave away a home. The recipient is a veteran who was injured in his second tour in Afghanistan. He also suffers PTSD.

Senior Airman Shaun Grogan didn’t know he was going to get the home. He was one of several who were considered.

ABC15 talked with GII Verrato as they were getting the home ready. Verrato heads the local chapter of VAREP.

Verrato explains it is the first of 63 homes that will be donated to veterans across the nation thanks to a partnership formed with Bank of America.

The home is meant to give the veteran a stepping stone for their future. Grogan is continuing his education.
